ALFALFA

Drought Tolerant Alfalfa for Hay and Grazing Livestock

F-Alfalfa

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is a perennial, cool-season legume that is suitable for hay, haylage, silage, or pasture. Alfalfa plants feature an erect growth habit from a single crown and a long taproot, which delivers excellent performance under drought conditions. Grazing-types feature a lower crown height and, as a result, are less likely to be damaged by livestock. Alfalfa comes in a wide range of dormancies and disease packages, so care should be used in selecting the proper variety. Alfalfa may cause bloat, but with proper application and management, the chances can be greatly reduced.
